The newly created “Research and Graduate Studies Division of NSBM Green University” held it’s first ever monthly research seminar beginning in the year 2018 on 4/1/2018 at the School of Business. The Vice-Chancellor Dr E. A. Weerasinghe graced the occasion and the entire faculty attached to the Schools of Business and Computing were present during the event. It was organized by Dr Sanjaya Dissanayake, In-charge / Coordinator – Research and Graduate studies of the university.
Dr Dissanayake was privileged to kick start the monthly research seminar series of the university by inviting and initiating it with his own PhD supervisor Professor Shelton Peiris (an internationally acclaimed statistician and econometrician) attached to the School of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Sydney, Australia as the first ever invited speaker.
Professor Shelton Peiris was able to display the rigour and the complexities of modern day research during his presentation titled “Recent Developments of Time Series Analysis and Forecasting with Applications in Finance”. During the presentation he discussed model formulation, parameter estimation, forecasting, testing and applications to real data by employing autoregressive conditional duration and generalized autoregressive moving average time series. The stock market indices of USA, Japan and France during a certain time period were utilized as the real applications for forecasting and to illustrate serial correlation known as long range dependence or long memory.
