NSBM Inauguration Ceremony 2019 March Intake


Sri Lanka’s premier degree awarding school, NSBM Green University Town greeted a group of over 1500 students as the first batch of year 2019 today, the 11th of March, marking the largest student intake in NSBM’s history. The inauguration ceremony was conducted in four sessions at the NSBM Green University Town.

Hon. Karunarathne Paranawithana, Deputy Minister to the Ministry of Skills Development & Vocational Training participated as the Chief guest for the inauguration ceremony of the new batch while Dr Karunasena Kodithuwakku, His Excellency the Ambassador of Peoples Republic of China and Prof. Sirkku Männikkö Barbutiu, Associate professor of Stockholm University Sweden as the key note speakers of the event. They were welcomed to the ceremony by the Vice Chancellor of NSBM Green University Dr E A Weerasinghe.

The Inauguration Ceremony is a formal reception of the new students who embarked their journey towards to be a global graduate.  And after the inauguration ceremony the orientation programs to the new undergraduates will be conducted over a period of 04 days starting from the 12th of March to 15th of March.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Mr. Chaminda Rathnayake, Head of Student activities Mr. Mohhamed Shafraz, Dean of School of Business Madam Thilini De Silva, Dean School of Computing Mr Chaminda Wijesinghe, Academic Heads of three faculties: Management, Engineering and Computing, other academics and parents of the new undergraduates were also participated to the Inauguration Ceremony for March Intake.

NSBM Green University Town is the first ever green university in South Asia and sets an example for the whole South Asia by paving the way for environmental sustainability. The university open a platform for both national & international student communities and it has turned a new chapter in Sri Lankan higher education. NSBM Green University is established under the Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs. This state-of-the-art university currently has over 9000 undergraduates studying in three faculties of Management, Computing and Engineering degree programs which are internationally and nationally recognized, including UGC approved degree programs, and foreign degree programs.
