Impulse 2019 : Mini workshop of 19.1 School of Computing Undergraduates


The Association of Computing Students (ACS) of NSBM Green University organized “Impulse 2019”, a mini workshop for the 19.1 batch of the School of Computing (SoC) on 17th July. The workshop was organized to prepare the newest batch of SoC for their upcoming first-semester examination by motivation and developing other psychological aspects. The event was held under the guidance of the module leaders of Introduction to Computer Science Mr. Chaminda Rathnayake, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of NSBM and Mr. Naji Saravanabavan, Senior Lecturer. Adding value to the event, Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance Mr. Baratha Dodankotuwa, The Dean School of Computing Dr. Rasika Ranaweera, Academic Head of School of Computing, Ms. Manoja Weerasekara participated to the event and shared their thoughts and experiences to uplift the mindsets of these undergraduates. The event was also graced by Ms. Thilni De Silva, Dean School of Business. 

Over 500 students of 19.1 batch associate to School of Computing participated in the workshop. And it consists of speeches on different aspects to motivate young undergraduates. The invitees, academics, and students were welcomed to the workshop by the current president of the Association of Computing Students of NSBM, Mr. Rusiru Ariyawansa, a final year undergraduate of B.Sc. (Hons) Computer Security degree program. 

Mr. Prasanna Perera, Senior Student Counselor and Senior Lecturer of NSBM Green University guided on preparing the mindset for the examinations by a very interactive session with the students. Mr. AnuraAdhikari and Mr. Yasas Sri Wickramasinghe from 99x Technologies give an address to students on “Higher demand for computing graduates and skills they need to Develop”. Mr. Chathu Vishwajith, proud alumni of NSBM, graduated from B.Sc. (Hons) Computer Science Degree who is currently the Ambassador at Auth0, Cofounder of Genius Soft Pvt Ltd shared his real-life experiences from the beginning of his university life to where he is standing now. 

Moreover, the launching first phase of “Loop Explorer” a web platform developing under the supervision of Association of Computing Students by two undergraduates namely Hirusha Fernando and Sanjana Silva who completed their first year of the degree was done at the workshop. This web platform will provide a base for Computing students to convert their theoretical knowledge to a practical atmosphere. Also, entertainment acts of the computing undergraduates of 19.1 batch kept the workshop live and entertained. 

Making the final remark of the workshop Mr. Chaminda Rathnayake addressed the students with an inspirational speech about the undergraduate life and on grooming themselves to shine in their lives while thanking the all the participants including the academics and ACS.
